About 31st/9th Ipswich (Britannia) Scout Group
The Background
We are a friendly scout group based on the east side of Ipswich. Originally formed when the 31st aIpswich and 9th Ipswich Sea Scouts merged in 2004, the group prides itself in over 50 years of scouting history in the town.
The 9th Ipswich Sea Scout Group was originally formed in 1915, and the 31st Ipswich Scout Group was formed in 1973. The two groups amalgamation came about in 2004 as a result in declining numbers of Scouts and Leaders at the 9th. The 9th were were long established at their headquarters near Roper Court off Foxhall Road, and the 31st were thriving, with good numbers of leaders and Scouts, but were without a home of their own, meeting at St Andrews Church in Britannia Road. It was, therefore, a logical move for the two Groups to come together to form one strong group.
